We are students from Nueces Canyon and we have a couple questions that need some verification.

1. We were wondering if landing the active fuel rods in the inner reactors (within the cooling tower) gives us the additional 30 points added onto the 50 points just for having it in the cooling tower?

2. And also, in the final draft it says for the "Lend A Helping Hand" bonus, that if your opponent finds a need to ask for help, you may go to the other mat. Is it necessary for them to say that they need our help, or will we get the points for just completing the task by touching their mat?

Thank You for any help! :D

There are two things you need to know in order to get the most out of understanding TCEA games:

Important Point #1 - Each task is evaluated at the end of the match separately. Each of the Game Tasks in section 4.3 are evaluated as independent opportunities for scoring. Often by completing a "more difficult" task you invariably end up partially or wholly completing one or more "less difficult" tasks. In Hot Rod, this is certainly the case. For example, in the Advanced Division if you have two reactors with Rods touching them, you would receive points for Task 4.3.2 (Move Active Fuel Rods to the Inner Reactors) AND you would also receive points for Task 4.3.5 (Move Active Fuel to Cooling Tower).

Important Point #2 - Each task has two parts to it: (1) a background section that explains the task and ties the task to the theme of the competition, and (2) a section that denotes what is required in order to get points. In Hot Rod at least, the background section is informational only; there are no requirements or stipulations stated in the background section that pertain to the task (that aren't repeated in the requirement section). Nonetheless, the background info says you need to prove to your neighbor that you CAN do it, in the event the neighbor feels the need to ASK for you to do it - it's like showing someone your muscles to prove to them that you're strong, so that when they need something lifted they know where to ask for help. ;)
